Discover 365: Day 29

January 29, 2013

HAPPY MOMENT: I think the best moment of today was when I realized that I have some pretty awesome people in my life. My friends are pretty cool most of the time, the guy I’m dating is phenomenal, and some of my coworkers are decent people (but only some of them!) 🙂 It’s nice to take a moment every once in a while to realize how truly lucky you are to have the life that you have!

MEANINGFUL SONG: “Thrift Shop” by Macklemore – This song just makes me happy when I hear it!

INSPIRATIONAL QUOTE: “Do not spoil what you have by desiring what you have not; remember that what you now have was once among the things you only hoped for.” (Epicurus) – It is so important to remember that you should not covet things that you do not have. All will come to you in due time!

It’s always nice to see that there are extremely charitable people left in the world. This South African billionaire has decided that he is going to give away more than half of his net worth. That is extremely generous and hopefully shows people that money is not everything!

Discover 365: Day 28

January 28, 2013

HAPPY MOMENT: I decided today that I was really going to make a commitment to getting fit and to eating better. This is the one part of my life where I know I can do better and I am just slacking off. It made me happy when I realized that I needed to recommit, though, because I now know that there is nothing that can hold me back from my goal other than myself. This might be an odd thing to be happy about, but there is a really free feeling from knowing that you are the only one who can stop yourself, no one else will be able to do it!

MEANINGFUL SONG: “Under Pressure” by David Bowie and Queen

INSPIRATIONAL QUOTE: “Do you want to know who you are? Don’t ask. Act! Action will delineate and define you.” (Thomas Jefferson)

Again, not uplifting, but pretty awesome pictures of Mt. Everest from space!

Discover 365: Day 27

January 27, 2013

HAPPY MOMENT: Today was great because I spent most of it taking a nap on my couch and relaxing. Prior to that we took the dog to the park for a walk and had brunch with a few margaritas. I was planning on having a super productive day, but spending time on the couch just took precedence over all of that!

MEANINGFUL SONG: “I Won’t Give Up” by Jason Mraz

INSPIRATIONAL QUOTE: “Ah! There is nothing like staying at home, for real comfort.” (Jane Austen)

The iShack is a way for people to have some type of shelter. I support this idea fully and wish that there were more innovative people out there who were coming up with solutions for the poor!

Discover 365: Day 26

January 26, 2013

HAPPY MOMENT: Today was just an awesome day all around. The new guy and I went and had brunch and then we headed up to a brewery with his friend A. After that we went and had an amazing dinner and we were in bed by 10 pm. It was perfect!

MEANINGFUL SONG: “Lonely No More” by Rob Thomas

INSPIRATIONAL QUOTE: “Maybe our girlfriends are our soulmates and guys are just people to have fun with.” (Candace Bushnell) – I’ve given thought to this concept over the years, but I still think its important to find that one guy who can make your day totally amazing! 🙂

Low income people being provided with nutritional information so that they can make better choices for their family. This makes me so happy to hear, because the nutritional education in this country is atrocious. The fact that you can reach 20 years old and not know how to feed yourself with healthy food is a huge problem!

Discover 365: Day 25

January 25, 2013

HAPPY MOMENT: The best moment of the day was the Ozomatli concert that we decided to go to last minute. It was fun dancing to the music and being surrounded by friends. They were so awesome and just as much fun as I remember them being from the previous two times I have seen them.

MEANINGFUL SONG: “Drive By” by Train

INSPIRATIONAL QUOTE: “I think you should ride the line between fatigue and chaos. The chaos keeps the energy level and spontaneity maximized, while fatigue is  just over the edge, and you should try to avoid it.” (Ted Nugent)

I always like to see underserved children being given the tools they need to succeed later in life. As someone who had teachers who made a big impact on me, I know how important it is to have those role models in your life.

Discover 365: Day 24

January 24, 2013

HAPPY MOMENT: I stood up for myself today when I went to take my car in to have new brakes installed. The service guy was arguing with me that I didn’t need new brakes, but I stood my ground and made it known that I REALLY needed brakes. I kind of fear what could have happened if I never said anything and just let him assume that I didn’t really need the brakes!

MEANINGFUL SONG: “Caught Up In You” by 38 Special

INSPIRATIONAL QUOTE: “Don’t wish it were easier. Wish you were better.” (Jim Rohn) – This rings SO true. There are so many times in life when we wish that things were easier for us, but we rarely ever twist the paradigm and wish that we were better at doing the hard things. It takes too much effort, so why look at it this way? I need to keep this in mind and make sure to keep twisting the paradigm!

Scientists discovered that there were some whales who started taking care of a disabled dolphin. I think its really neat that animals are so intelligent!

Discover 365: Day 23

January 23, 2013

HAPPY MOMENT: The best moment of the day happened when I was sitting in piano class and I realized that I really do have a talent for music. I’ve always known that I’ve had a good ear for music, but seeing how quickly I pick up on the music and the keys has been awesome. I hope to continue taking classes until I get to a point where I can pick up any piece of music and play it by reading the notes.

MEANINGFUL SONG: “Beast of Burden” by The Rolling Stones

INSPIRATIONAL QUOTE: “Art enables us to find ourselves and lose ourselves at the same time.” (Thomas Merton)

Having gratitude in your life, and avoiding negativity, contribute to a “healthier you.” While this is not a new concept, its really interesting to see that studies are being done on the effects of negativity. What was also interesting is that they did an experiment where they asked the people to write in a daily journal about their positive experiences, and they gauged how “greatful” they were by using these entries. This is exactly how I went about being more positive, so I thought that was pretty awesome!
